Vocal recording
In our iso booths on Wibautstraat you record singing, rap or spoken voice with an engineer who listens in, keeps levels safe and keeps takes organised — without rushing you.

A track lives or dies on the vocal. At Mordancyedge you book when home recording is no longer enough: too much room noise, no quiet place for doubles, or simply the need for a second pair of ears in the control room. We focus on capture; mix and mastering are separate if you want them here later.
The studio has 2 iso booths and 3 rooms across about 145 m² in Amsterdam-Oost. You work with a recording engineer; for mix and master you can follow up with mixing or mastering. Preparation tips are in vocal warm-up before recording; general questions in FAQ.
Website rates are indicative; the binding price is in your quote after contact. We usually reply within 2 business days. Booking requires a 30% deposit; free rescheduling up to 7 days before the session, as set out in terms and conditions.
Process
- 01
Briefing
Send instrumental, tempo, lyrics and references. We prep the session before you arrive so setup stays inside your block.
- 02
Setup
Mic comparison, pop filter, headphone mix and talkback. Allow about fifteen to twenty minutes for a stable base.
- 03
Takes
Full passes, then targeted punch-ins. The engineer flags strong takes so comping stays clear later.
- 04
Delivery
Consolidated WAV stems or session export, plus backup under our 24-month archive policy.
Who this service is for
Solo artists finishing a single, rappers on a tight timeline, bands adding leads after a demo recording in the live room, and producers who want clean vocals for an external mixer: the booth is built for that. Spoken voice for audio projects fits too, within studio rules and hours Mon–Fri 10–19, Sat 11–17.
Participants under 16 need written consent from a parent or guardian who signs the contract and stays present, as in terms and conditions. We do not invent credits or anonymous claims; you keep ownership of your material per the quote.
Booths and microphones
Booths are dry enough for detail without feeling dead: you hear yourself naturally in the headphones. We can draw from roughly 28 mics and preamps; at the start we usually compare two or three models on the same line — large diaphragm for air, dynamic for powerful vocals or close rap, sometimes ribbon if the top end feels harsh.
Distance, height and pop-filter angle matter as much as the model. We tune for sibilance and plosives before serious takes so later edits stay small. Bring your own headphones if you rely on them.
How a session runs
Check in at Wibautstraat 137, 1091 GL Amsterdam; directions on contact under Wibautstraat 137 sits between metro Wibautstraat (M51, M53, M54) and Amsterdam Amstel. From metro Wibautstraat it is about a 4-minute walk. Tram 1 stops at Wibautstraat; bus 755 serves the Amstel station side. Street-level entrance with a step-free lobby.. After a quick file and tempo check you enter the booth with a personal mix: more vocal, less bass, light reverb in the phones only unless you want it printed.
We alternate full takes and targeted re-sings. Breaks are yours — a tired voice rarely yields usable material. If another client follows your slot we end on time; if you arrive late, available time usually shrinks without automatic extension.
What to bring
Backing track as WAV, ideally without guide vocal, or a stem export from your DAW. Add lyrics, tempo and key if known, plus two or three reference tracks for vocal tone — not to clone, but to aim direction. See our warm-up guide for simple care before you travel.
Bring water; the studio has water and a music stand. Avoid ice-cold drinks right before singing if you tense easily. Discuss tuning concerns in the quote — light pitch help on request is possible but not default in every hour without agreement.
Comping, naming and handoff
Comping can happen at the end of the block if time allows, or as agreed follow-up within the booked rate. Stems get clear names (Lead, Double, Adlib) and the same start point as the song so mixing here or elsewhere stays orderly.
Default delivery is 24-bit WAV at 48 kHz unless your project needs another rate declared upfront. Download via secure link or copy to your drive on site. We keep sessions 24 months then delete unless you extend storage — keep your own backups.
Rates, VAT and blocks
Published Vocal recording rates:
| Option | Price | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Hourly | €98 | Short overdubs or one chorus |
| Four hours | €425 | Single with doubles |
| Full day | €795 | EP vocals or several songs |

Not included in the hourly rate
Mixing, mastering, heavy tuning as its own project, arranging or production beyond capture, hauling heavy private gear, and long storage beyond 24 months are outside standard vocal recording. Extra musicians you bring are not automatically covered — mention control-room guests when booking.
“Revisions” at capture level usually mean new studio time at the running rate; post-production revisions follow mix/master rules with 2 included rounds where applicable. Questions: [email protected] or 020 244 9183.
Toward mix or master
Many clients record vocals and mix elsewhere; others book mixing with Sanne Meijer right after. Either way we deliver tidy stems. Heading to vinyl or strict streaming targets? Plan mastering and read streaming loudness targets before you submit masters.

FAQ
How long for one song?
For a three- to four-minute pop or rap single with chorus doubles, clients often need three to four hours. The €425 block fits many solo projects; dense layers may need a full day.
Can someone sit in the control room?
One or two trusted people is common. Larger groups can distract and may not fit the room — mention it via contact when booking.
Do you record backing tracks here?
This page is vocal in the booth. Instruments in the live room fall under demo recording or band sessions; we plan vocals as follow-up or combined on quote.
What if I am ill on the day?
Tell us early via [email protected] or 020 244 9183. More than 7 days out you can reschedule free; between 7 days and 72 hours the deposit is credited once per terms and conditions.
Is mix included?
No. Mix is mixing at €185 per track or an EP package. You can still record clean vocals to simplify external mix.
