Demo recording

Guitar, bass, drums and vocals in one room — with an engineer who places mics, labels takes and helps you capture a convincing demo without spending days in the studio.

Band playing demo in live room while engineer records.

Demos exist so someone can hear a song: a label, curator, collaborator or yourself, before you invest in full production. Mordancyedge on Wibautstraat offers Demo recording for bands and songwriters who want a energetic take with guidance — not a fully mixed, master-ready album in one afternoon.

The live room fits up to 6 musicians at once; gobos, blankets and a compact kit help control bleed. After the session you receive aligned recordings — not automatic mixing unless booked separately. Iso-booth vocals can sit in the same block as vocal recording when schedule allows.

Prices below are indicative; your quote after contact wins. Replies within 2 business days are typical. 30% deposit; free moves up to 7 days before start per terms and conditions. Open Mon–Fri 10–19, Sat 11–17.

Process

  1. 01

    Setlist

You send tempo, structure and priority songs. We estimate mic plan and whether everything fits one session.

  2. 02

    Load-in

Instruments placed, line check, headphone mix for click if needed. Short soundcheck per song before take one.

  3. 03

    Takes

Full-band passes or layer-by-layer depending on arrangement. Engineer marks usable takes and alternates.

  4. 04

    Stem export

WAV stems per instrument plus rough bounce for quick review. Backup under 24-month archive policy.

When demo recording makes sense

A songwriter band wanting three songs on tape, a duo prepping an EP pitch, a covers act needing one clean reference, or an artist checking whether an arrangement works live after home recording — typical demo days. Capture and structure, not endless overdubs without a plan.

Full album production, arrangement written from scratch by our team, or session players we hire stay outside standard demo unless quoted. Pure in-the-box electronic work may stay home; describe your rig on contact. Minimum age 16 with parent/guardian per terms and conditions.

Live room and bleed

Roughly 145 m² means everyone hears everyone — good for groove, demanding on mic choice. Dynamics close on guitars, isolated bass where possible, drums screened so vocals can overdub later. Demo aesthetic: honest, not surgically dry unless iso vocals share the block.

Bring amps and pedals you actually play through; we DI in parallel for safety. Tuning and intonation stay yours — we capture what you play, no stealth tuning without agreement.

Workflow per song

Per track we usually move from a rough pass to one or two alternates. Click allowed; live without click if tempo holds. We note BPM and key for later mixing. If you booked €225 per song, focus on one track and return for the rest — expectations stay clear.

Vocal overdubs after the band pass can use leftover time in €465; otherwise book vocal recording. Plan honestly: a busy arrangement often needs the four-hour €465 block rather than per-song pricing alone.

Band prep

Rehearse transitions; demo days are not unpaid practice. Send rough mixes or phone refs for arrangement only, not as a legal sound claim. Fresh strings help. Drums: own sticks, own snare if that is your sound.

Read deliver stems for mixing if an external mixer follows — we can name tracks accordingly. Parking and route: Wibautstraat 137 sits between metro Wibautstraat (M51, M53, M54) and Amsterdam Amstel. From metro Wibautstraat it is about a 4-minute walk. Tram 1 stops at Wibautstraat; bus 755 serves the Amstel station side. Street-level entrance with a step-free lobby. on contact.

Delivery and rough mix

Default: one WAV stem per instrument, 24-bit 48 kHz, same start time. A quick stereo rough for sharing is possible if time remains — not a substitute for pro mixing. No DAW session export unless agreed and compatibility checked.

Secure download; copy to your drive on site is fine. Archive 24 months then delete unless extended. Keep your own backups.

Not included by default

Mixing at €185, mastering, extra musicians, rare vintage rental beyond house stock, and frame-by-frame drum editing sit outside demo. Informal coaching during takes is not a promise of playlist or label interest.

Re-recording means new studio time at prevailing rates; mix/master revisions follow 2 rounds on those services. Questions: 020 244 9183 or [email protected].

After the demo

Happy with the take? Book mixing here or export stems outward. Targeting streaming? Read streaming loudness targets before master. Spoken word alongside band work belongs under podcast recording, not simultaneous in the live room.

FAQ

How many songs in four hours?

Prepared bands often finish two to three songs with full takes in €465. One heavy track with many overdubs can fill four hours alone — choose €820 or split across days.

Does everyone play at once?

Usually yes for energy; sometimes bass/drums first, guitar later. Tell us your preference on contact.

Is mix included in per-song price?

No. €225 covers recording and stem export. Mix is mixing at €185 or hourly mix.

Can we bring our own backline?

Yes if it fits safely in the live room. Share amp wattage and footprint so we plan power and space for 6 players.

What if a member is sick?

Tell us early. Cancel more than 7 days ahead for free reschedule; after that terms and conditions apply. Sometimes we track backing and add vocals later via vocal recording.
